Journalism and Public Relation are now popular than ever with all companies fight at the business market to engage their audience. To provide values or products to them whilst competing with other companies is quite a challenge for the basic marketing team. On the other hand, people are starting to get quite used to the up-to-date hype that the demand for news and articles has been overloaded. The people who wrote your news are Journalist. Those who market your phone and laptop desirable are public relations. As mentioned by a successful entrepreneur founder of Bath and Body works, “Communication is the key for any global industry” (Roddick,2013).

 

These two majors; journalism and public pelation are two of the most sought out majors in communication. Even though both studies are vastly different yet closely related. They both are fundamentals in the media industry and to simply give their audience information. Journalists and public relations are both staple in today’s industry with technology. Both these majors have been an extraordinarily strong contender in the business world. After all these companies and organizations need support from their audience. Both jobs are not the basic 9-5 jobs, they both have a flexible time schedule and lots of impromptu writing and research (Mahogany Consult). With these majors, they shall learn how to communicate with audiences through pictures, journal articles and even could and would build up to advertisement. With technology quickly advancing these prospects have been very promising, but most people do not know what the difference is between journalists and public relations. 

 

Journalists are people that provide information and news for their viewers. This news can be all sorts of things related to science, arts, economics, tech, politics, even controversial gossip. Their topic ranges from a to z unlimitedly. Journalist most focuses more on writing about the current situation happening on the society, they must ask themselves “Is this important?” or “Is it relevant?” They simply lean more towards communicating a certain topic or news to the media and the society/viewers, although journalist’s point of view in certain topics will be neutral, some did insert their own opinions and beliefs in their writing. The skills you will need to be a journalist are researching, critical thinking, and relevancy estimation. As a journalist you will be writing about information for people, it must be factual or a strong opinion, after researching the information a journalist must then analyze the information found to get strong points for their writing. When the journalist has found their points, it is time for the news assembly, knowing proper grammar and punctuation marks shall be a life saver in this situation. Finally, the journalist must consider how the mass society will react to this writing once it is published (Evans, 2016). Do note that journalists hold massive power in shaping the society’s beliefs as Pearl Strachan Hurdstated, “Handle them carefully, for words have more power than atom bombs’’. An astonishing example of successful journalist are Najwa Shihab, the founder and host of Mata Najwa. Mata Najwa has one of the biggest impacts in Indonesian news reports, it also can and have shaped most of the general publics mindset about politics, economic, and social.

On the other hand, while journalists serve the public by giving information and keeping them up to date. Public relations serve an organization or a company. Public relations tasks are to be the bridge between society and an organization or a company. They simply need to communicate the organization/company beliefs or products to the mass audience of potential buyers or supporters strategically. Its described as a mix of journalism, psychology and lawyering and it also has an ever changing landscape by Ron Torrosian (Damayanti, 2015). The practitioner also creates communication materials through production work such as photography, computer desk-top publishing, audio and video recording and editing as well as preparing audio-visual presentations. They communicate in numerous ways such as organizing an event, endorsing artists and public figures, even down to the smallest bits such as the company/organization’s Instagram is under their control. Likewise, research is also a much-needed skill in public relations. Journalism needs to research about the topic they were going to bring up, but public relations need to do research on the audience’s interest and disinterest. They need to be able to position themselves in the audience’s position to get the reaction and response they are aiming for. Not only is the main goal to capture and captivate their audience to support them, but they also need to be able to maintain that relationship to an extent. (Evans, 2016). Most successful public relations work behind the scenes such as Eliot Schrage, VP Communications for Facebook. Leslie Dach, EVP of corporate affairs and government relations at Wal-Mart. (Stampler, 2018)

To sum it up, journalists are mostly people who authored articles and news for the media to be published containing diverse topics, while public relation are the people who forms a relationship with an audience under the name of a brand, company, or organization. Both require intensive research skills and creativity, not to mention their relevancy and credibility to the wide audience. Me myself are vastly intrigued by the similarities these both have which is communication skills, after all this time we cannot deny that technology keeps moving onwards and this might be the perfect career path for you. Everyone knows what a doctor is, and where to find them. But there’s a lot of doctors who focused on the aesthetic such as dentist, dermatologist, plastic surgeon, and also cosmetic surgeon. In this text we will talk about the differences and similarities between a Plastic Surgeon and a dermatologist. People can be confused what’s the difference between plastic surgeon and dermatologist. They’re types who focuses on treating skins, burns, illness or could be called aesthetic. It’s important to know the types, because it will be helpful to know which doctor to go to that match to the body’s problem.

Plastic surgeons and dermatologists are both in the business of helping patients look their best, whether they're recovering from cancer or disfiguring injuries, or they simply want to feel better about their appearance. But although these doctors have similar goals and perform some of the same procedures, they have very different career paths. Plastic surgeons are focused on reconstructive procedures. They can see patients who have conditions like birth disorders, injuries, illnesses, or burns Many plastic surgeons choose to become cosmetic surgeons and do procedures to change a patient's appearance or aesthetic. Meanwhile Dermatologists are doctors specialising in skincare. They work with the patients for diagnosing and treating their hair, skin, and nails. (Melinda Ratini, 2021).

Dermatologist can remove the skin or suggest some antibiotics and medications after examining the skin. They also work with oncologists for performing biopsies of cysts and moles to determine whether these spots can be cancerous, also remove malevolent sections if they consider it be necessary. Plastic surgeons work with their patients to transform the appearance of their faces and bodies. They are trained medical surgeons who specialise in tissue transfers, laser surgery and body contouring. They enjoy making their patients feel good about their body by working on their bones of skull and face or through performing liposuction. They often focus on elective surgeries like facelifts, breast augmentations and rhinoplasties. To be successful, they are required to have an in-depth knowledge of tissue transfers and skin grafts. Dermatologists work in a clinical setting whereas plastic surgeons work in the operation theatres most of the time. Dermatologists are experts who study for four years in college, followed by four years in medical school and practice up to three of residency in paediatrics, internal medicine. They later undergo over three years of dermatology training. Some of them also specialize in cosmetic dermatological training which includes the training in cosmetic techniques. Plastic surgeons undergo formal training in general surgery, including orthopaedic surgery, neck and head surgery along with some ophthalmology. The period of training for plastic surgeons is a minimum of six years whereas it takes approximately four years for dermatologists to complete their training.

They later undergo over three years of dermatology training. Some of them also specialize in cosmetic dermatological training which includes the training in cosmetic techniques. Some of the dermatologists sub-specialising in cosmetic dermatology spend extra time in training related to lasers, treatments related to leg veins and injectable. They are trained to do surgeries related to skin cancers but not aesthetic surgeries such as facelifts. On the other hand, plastic surgeons are trained to operate these cosmetic surgeries (Shipa Surman, 2019). Plastic surgeons undergo formal training in general surgery, including orthopedic surgery, neck and head surgery along with some ophthalmology. The period of training for plastic surgeons is a minimum of six years whereas it takes approximately four years for dermatologists to complete their training.Plastic surgeon and dermatologist have the same purpose. They have a similar goal which is aesthetic medicine. Aesthetic medicine is where dermatologists and plastic surgeons overlap the most. They comprises all medical procedures that are aimed at improving the physical appearance and satisfaction of the patient, using non-invasive to minimally invasive cosmetic procedures. They also have the same education which to treat skin but plastic surgeon studied until tissue and also illness. Both plastic and dermatologist had cosmetic procedure, for example cosmetic surgeon and also cosmetic dermatologist.

Even though plastic surgeon and dermatologist are different, they still similar to each other. Now we know the differences and the similarities between plastic surgeon and dermatologist, Plastic surgeons work with their patients to transform the appearance of their faces and bodies and Dermatologists are doctors specialising in skincare. They work with the patients for diagnosing and treating their hair, skin and nails. People sometimes confused because plastic surgeon and dermatologist are very similar. There’s something to remember, a lot of people want to change their appearance, it’s ok if you want to change your appearance by doing surgeries, but don’t change yourself because people told you, and try to be grateful what god had give you.

STOP CONFUSING BETWEEN A DOCTOR AND A PHARMACISTS

The pandemic situation has made a turning point in the history of disease and sickness. For people who got infected with any disease, there are people with the profession and responsibility to take care of the patients. These people who pursue that profession such as doctors or pharmacists took a long way to get to their place right now, but many people still misunderstood the meaning when pharmacists say that “I’m a doctor”. There is a significant difference between people who take the medical major and pharmacy major, such as their study material through college, field of work, and responsibilities

Medicine major and Pharmacy major are both majors from the branches of science. Medicine major focuses on scientific research on the molecular and cellular bases of disease and the application of this knowledge to the development of new tools, drugs, and clinical and diagnostic therapies. Including the teaching of cell biology, molecular biology, physiology, pharmacology, biochemistry, genetics, pathology, molecular immunology, research and quantitative methods, and biomedical research calculations. While people who pursue a pharmacy major, under the supervision of a pharmacist, pharmacy students prepare medicines, provide medicines and related assistance to patients, and manage the clinical and commercial operations of the pharmacy. Including medical and pharmaceutical terminology, pharmacology and pharmacy principles, drug identification, pharmacy laboratory procedures, prescription interpretation, patient communication and education, safety procedures, record-keeping, measurement and testing techniques, business operations pharmacy, prescription preparation, coordination, and dispensing operations.

Medicine major tends to study most core science courses in the first two years break the body down into systems, sometimes incorporating interconnected systems, and combine lectures with laboratory work. The pharmacy course aims to introduce various topics and cultures and to strengthen critical thinking and communication skills. This course provides students with scientific training and clinical skills to provide patient-centered team care in the evolving healthcare system (Kowarski, 2018). Although pharmacists must have a doctorate in pharmacy, they are not doctors or physicians. There are some differences between the two occupations, including the jobs that the law allows them to do. Medical school in the United States usually lasts four years but is often followed by residency and potentially fellowship (Fields, 2021). For those who want to become a doctor, this can represent a combined medical education of 10 years or more. While pharmacy school includes a four-year Doctor of Pharmacy program, followed by an optional one- or two-year residency program. As such, pharmacy school will take four to six years to complete for most graduates (Riggs, 2021). The first-year courses of medical major mostly focus on human body function, diseases, and clinical skills (Anatomy, Physiology, Body Function, Brain and Behavior, Epidemiology/Biostatistics, Foundations of Disease/Microbiology, Intro to Clinical Medicine, Developing Clinical Skills). Pharmacy major focuses on human anatomy, biomolecular, and chemistry (Molecular & Cellular Biology, Chemistry Lecture, and Lab, Calculus, Human Anatomy Lecture, Statistics). After finishing the first year, medical major students will continue to learn about medicine and surgery (Internal Medicine, Psychiatry/Neurology, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics, Surgery, Geriatrics, Community and Preventive Medicine), while pharmacy major will learn microbiology and chemistry (Microbiology Lecture and Lab, Organic Chemistry Lecture and Lab, College Physics, Mammalian Physiology Lecture, and Lab).

You need a degree in medicine to become a doctor, but it can also lead you into alternative careers in many areas including lecturing, research, and scientific journalism. Jobs directly related to a medical degree include Anaesthetist, Cardiologist, Clinical radiologist, General practice doctor, Hospital doctor, Neurologist, Ophthalmologist, Pathologist, Psychiatrist, and Surgeon. As well as working as a community or hospital pharmacist, pharmacy graduates can also find opportunities in academia, the pharmaceutical industry, and with regulatory bodies. Jobs directly related to pharmacy degree include Community pharmacist, Hospital pharmacist, Research scientist (medical). Doctors have medical degrees and licenses to practice medicine, and they must meet residency requirements for their specialty (Riley, 2021). They examine patients, diagnose them with health problems, and determine their treatment plan, which may include prescribing medication. Meanwhile, pharmacists have Doctor of Pharmacy and pharmacy degrees, and they can complete a residency. While pharmacists can perform some basic medical procedures, such as giving patients a flu shot, they cannot prescribe medications or perform complex medical procedures. The pharmacist's first job is to make sure that the patient is taking the correct medication and knows how to take it. Doctors' responsibility to patients is to provide direct treatment to a patient, which may include assessing a patient's symptoms or injuries, diagnosing the patient, reviewing test results, counseling educates patients about treatment options, and treat patients by prescribing medications, referring them to specialists, or performing medical procedures. Pharmacist's responsibilities to patients are to ensure that patients take the medications prescribed by their doctors and know how to take them (Baker, 2019). They can also give general medical advice and perform basic medical tests on patients or vaccinate patients. They know the ingredients in the medicine you are taking and can give you advice on the best time to take it, possible interactions with other drugs or natural supplements, the risks, and the side effects of the drug. They can also give basic health and wellness tips.

Medicine major and pharmacy major may look similar just from the surface of the course, but if you investigate the details there are significant differences that occur in their study material, the field of work, and responsibilities. Learning more about these differences will help you to understand better which major that suits you and which major will be beneficial for your career.

Business and Management courses have been one of the most sought majors by the students throughout the year. Many students decided to attend the business and management courses because it is indeed one of the most popular majors in university. It also provides a wide range of job opportunities for the students who have graduated with this degree. It’s because there is a lot of job offer that require employees with business and management degrees. But that is not the only intake in taking this course, business and management course right here has constantly enhanced each of their students in becoming the leader, not just the employee. Therefore, from the business and management course major, a lot of future leaders will be born.

This Major has always been the popular choice among the other majors chosen by the students. It is popular because there are a lot of students that aspire to become an entrepreneur or business leaders. For aspiring entrepreneurs and business leaders, a business management degree is consistently a popular choice. It provides the academic knowledge and skills to pursue global career opportunities and helps them in developing a broad understanding of businesses and specific areas such as finance and human resources. Students will gain an overall view of entrepreneurial activity and explore different ways to approach entrepreneurship. They will also learn how to consider financial and institutional systems in supporting entrepreneurship in different economies and gain an analytical framework for understanding different approaches to entrepreneurial cultures. “Business and Management course has inspired positive change in business and society, individuals and organizations, locally and globally by delivering impactful research and classes which promote a global and digital mindset for the future of business.” (T, 2021) Business and management courses allow their students to explore how organizations of all sizes start, run and thrive. Throughout the year this course has been training its students in becoming future leaders. It has provided each student the rundown on becoming the future leaders of the world economy. The students got nurture to become an entrepreneur, that will hold the economy in their hands. (T, 2021) (Kingston University London, 2020)

Entrepreneurs are known as future leaders. But what exactly are an entrepreneur and its relation to entrepreneurship?

In brief, an entrepreneur is someone who first initiates a product or business idea and thus is the leader of that in the market. Entrepreneurs are the pioneers and innovators who often build businesses from scratch, or work within their organizations to create new opportunities. “An entrepreneur is an individual who conceives a unique idea or concept to start an enterprise and brings it into reality, creates a new business, bearing most of the risks and uncertainties of the business and enjoying most of the rewards.” (Hayes, 2021) An entrepreneur is commonly seen as an innovator, a source of new ideas, goods, services, and business or procedures. The people who will become Future Leaders in the world economy are those people who set up businesses with the aim of making profits. They are the ones who will always lead the market because no matter how many competitors come in the future, their position will remain untouched. The venture established by the entrepreneur is known as Startup Company, which is formed for the very first time regarding the idea, innovation, or business process. That helps them realize their idea, known as entrepreneurship, which aggregates capital and labor to produce goods or services for profit. (Ferreira, 2020) (Hayes, 2021)

While entrepreneurship itself is the act and process of creating and setting businesses while building and scaling them to generate a profit. (Hayes, 2021) Entrepreneurship is about pursuing opportunities beyond the resources that people have at hand. Entrepreneurship is highly risky but also can be highly rewarding, as it serves to generate economic wealth, growth, and innovation. In the world of economy, an entrepreneur is considered as the most important factor of production, which assembles and mobilizes the other three factors of production which are land, labor, and capital. Entrepreneurs play a key role in any economy, using the skills and initiative necessary to anticipate needs and bringing good new ideas to market. Entrepreneurs are known for their creative approach. They introduce innovation and coordinate the resources. They offer such products and services which bring about a change in the world. Entrepreneurship that proves to be successful in taking on the risks of creating a startup is rewarded with profits, fame, and continued growth opportunities but for those entrepreneurship that fails results in losses and less prevalence in the markets for those involved. (Kingston University London, 2020) (Hayes, 2021)

Hence, for those students that are still in confusion about choosing their college major, why not consider the Business and Management course as their chosen major. Business and Management courses have proved that they are worthy of their popularity as one of the most chosen majors by the students each year. The major itself has given the students a lot of opportunities in becoming the best version of themselves. They develop the students into becoming a worthy leader, the ones that will hold the economy in their hands. So, why become an employee if you can become your own leader by simply learning business and management courses. Go and get yourself the best version of yourself, the one person you can be proud of which is a worthy leader.

                Everyone must know the work of a doctor. But did everyone know that there are a lot of types of doctors? The one that focuses on teeth, eyes, and many more. This text will talk about one of the types, it’s the one who focuses on skin, hair, and nails, it’s dermatologist. It’s important to know the types, because it will be helpful to know which doctor to go to that match to the body’s problem. Even though there are a lot of types of doctors, there’s a doctor that takes care of general things, it is called general practitioners.

People’s reasons to visit dermatology are because of a rash, an unusual-looking mole, or a skin discoloration (Cosmetic Dermatology, Medical Dermatology, 2020). According to docdoc article, dermatology is the medical specialty that deals with diseases and conditions that affect the skin, hair, scalp, and nails. But dermatology is focused on the problems and treatment of skin. We need to take care of our skin because it has wider range of conditions and diseases. Many people also said that dermatology is a good career (MALACH, 2020). Dermatology usually works normal than any other doctors. The patients come and go from the morning until evening, not like doctors that works on midnight. Other than that, is the difference of the patients. The patients generally aren’t dying all the time like they are in oncology, and people are usually happy because of the result. The field of dermatology is divided into two branches –medical and cosmetic  (Cosmetic Dermatology, Medical Dermatology, 2020). The similarities in these two types are of course focuses on addressing medical conditions of skin in patients. Other than that, these two types work differently.

When someone asked what the difference between medical dermatology and cosmetic dermatology it looks so obvious from the name. Medical dermatology is focusing on addressing medical conditions affecting the health and appearance of skin of the patients (Lakeview Dermatology, n.d.). So basically, this type of dermatology is considered by the healthcare industry, as it geared toward fixing a health problem or injury, and it is usually therefore covered by insurance. This is because the insurance and governmental paperwork required with medical dermatology. While Lakeview Dermatology article said cosmetic dermatology caters to patients looking to maintain their youthful appearance by reversing the signs of aging or wanting to make aesthetic changes or improvements to their skin. So, this type is an ever-growing specialty to treat patients who desire to look better but have no medical to do so. The patients are desiring to reverse signs of aging and to look healthier and younger. So cosmetic dermatology address patient desires, performing services such as correcting skin tone, smoothing wrinkles, removing hair on the face or body, reducing surface fat, tightening skin, removing tattoos, treating cellulite, and treating acne and acne scars (Dan Brennan, 2021). This type of dermatology isn’t covered by most insurance policies, the patients pay out-of-pocket.

                Other differences of medical dermatology and cosmetic dermatology are as follows. Dermatologists primarily use only lotions, cleansers and creams for the treatment of patients, while cosmetic surgeons may use scalpels, saws and lasers to cut skin and bone ( dolly@docmode.com, 2019). The techniques used are also very different. According docmode.com, dermatologists will use a wide range of refined techniques to remedy various medical problems regarding skin conditions, including surgery, laser and light therapy, cryotherapy, and medicines to be applied to the skin or taken orally. The five most common nonsurgical cosmetic procedures were botulinum toxin such as botox injections, hyaluronic acid treatments, laser hair removal, nonsurgical fat reduction, and photorejuvenation (IPL) (Dan Brennan, 2021). Other than those things, next is the job responsibilities of a medical dermatology and cosmetic dermatology. According to docmode.com, the job responsibilities of medical dermatology include diagnosing conditions such as acne, dandruff, athlete’s foot, and psoriasis. Then, recommending skin care products to increase their patient’s chances of recovering and healing. Next one is remaining updated on the latest skincare treatments, both topical and surgical. Lastly, utilizing tools such as dermoscopes to get a close look at pigmented lesions of the skin. According to docmode.com, the job responsibilities of a cosmetic surgeon include following current and established medical techniques for surgery. Then, learning a patient’s medical history, medical allergies, and any preexisting health conditions to ensure the patient is healthy enough for surgery. The next one is discussing with the patient the risks of undergoing an operation. Lastly, prescribing treatments, such as antibiotics, for patients before and after a procedure.

                        After learning about dermatology, know that it is divided by two types. The first type is medical dermatology, where they focus on the skin health. And the second type is cosmetic dermatology, where they focus on the beauty of the skin. Skin is the most visible part of the body, so it’s important to maintain the skin. Maybe for its health or maybe for the magnificence. But there is something to be remember, people opinion is not important. People change their looks or going to the cosmetic dermatology is for personal pleasure. Don’t change looks just because what people say, love yourself!

The world economy has started since we were born. There are 582 million entrepreneurs in the world in 2020 (MARKINBLOG, 2020). That is, many already know the strategy to start a business and develop it. As we know, starting a business is not easy, let alone starting with minimal capital. Starting a business is no longer easy, let alone developing it, it takes skill in many ways to become a leader of a business. Therefore, we need a good learning innovation for the next generation in order to become good and true business leaders. Maybe there will be many questions that will arise when choosing a college major that is suitable for future problems such as, is studying economics necessary? What does it take to start a business?

Sometimes many think that business does not need to be studied because it can be done self-taught. That statement is of course wrong because there are many theories that must be studied to understand the details in creating/developing a business. Economic business is not only aimed at making profits continuously. Experience, social relations, trends, etc. are needed in conquering a business. Therefore, we should not underestimate business economics learning. Economics studies can develop a wide range of analytical and critical thinking skills, which opens up many diverse career opportunities. Economic analysis can help us hone our skills in understanding and influencing today's policy debates. Studying material in economics prepares you for a career not only in business, banking, government, and financial transactions, but also in areas such as urban planning, international development and education. An economics degree is also excellent preparation for postgraduate study in law, business, economics, government, public administration, environmental studies, health care administration, labor relations, global studies, diplomacy, and other fields. Not only in development, the economy is at the heart of many of the social problems facing the world, including unemployment, inflation, poverty, pollution, health care, human rights, and gender and racial inequalities. An effective solution to this problem is an in-depth introduction to economics.

A degree in business or finance can lead to opportunities in organizations large and small in public and private. Both degrees also provide a solid foundation and are good preparation for entrepreneurs looking to start their own business. Both degrees involve a significant amount of basic mathematics as well as accounting, statistics, economics, and business law. A business or bachelor's degree in finance is considered sufficient preparation for many entry-level jobs such as those in the commercial banking, money management, real estate, and investment banking sectors. However, finance and business operate on the same financial principles. There is still a need to make money, save funds, find profitable investments and develop and protect your assets. In studying business and finance, we can balance income and expenses. We can ensure that there is a balance between the money coming in and the amount being sent by studying business and finance. To match short-term and long-term goals, we can also study business and finance. We can ensure that our short-term goals support our plans for the long-term future. The same goes for personal finances when we save money now as an investment for our retirement years. A business is not possible without finance and nor is running a financial institution without being a business.

There are 3 business terms every entrepreneur should know: marketing, finance and business. Each of these terms helps entrepreneurs in knowing how to handle their business more effectively. The term is the pillar of a building (business). The building can stand upright without supporting pillars, but the existence of these pillars guarantees that the building will not easily collapse. But there are still many people who do not know the difference between business and finance so many people choose the wrong major in both majors. A degree in business administration or finance can lead to opportunities in organizations large and small in the public and private sectors. Both degrees also provide a solid foundation and are good preparation for entrepreneurs looking to start their own business. The main objective of a business is to create a legally supported organization that operates by selling goods and/or services. To start a business, one must have a relationship with a law to get a legal basis for his business. Having a legal basis means that the business is legal, has a government-issued work permit, and that its products are approved by the food and beverage safety board or department of commerce and industry of the country in which it operates. While finance is the study of how individuals/groups earn, save, and spend money in a certain period of time. Finance has to do with two factors: money and time. This relates to research that describes how people save for future expenses, or how people spend their money. In particular, finance majors must have a more complex mathematical background. A solid understanding of algebra will become increasingly important as students’ progress in finance.

In the end, we ourselves will determine the choice of majors in our hands. A business that studies commercial, industrial or professional activities and is a company that offers goods or services for an amount of money. On the other hand, finance is just a part of the business. The study of how investors allocate their assets over time. Although this economy looks easy, we should not underestimate the study of business/finance so that we can have a solid foundation in carrying out our work. Even all jobs require the business and finances that underlie their own work in order to be organized. Future economic growth is in our hands, we will determine how the economy of our next generation will be. Therefore, a good business/economic study is needed so that a balance between the community and entrepreneurs emerges. New ideas are needed from prospective successful entrepreneurs who understand the world of finance and business so that the future of our economy can be better.

Food Technology and Culinary Arts, Is It the Same?

“What is the differences between food technology vs culinary arts?” Everyone must know about culinary majors. Culinary arts are the art of preparing, cooking, and serving food. However, what about food technology? The question that many people ask a food technologist is “so are you some kind of chef?” Many people think that food technology is the same as culinary art. However, they are different. There are many differences between the two majors. Starting from the lessons they have learned, their prospects, and their different target consumers. Therefore, we need to look further into the differences between food science and culinary arts.

            Many people think that food science and technology will become a chef when they graduate. But, it’s not. Food science and technology are very different from culinary arts. Food tech is a combination of sciences dedicated to studying food (Titus, Samuel, & Roopan, 2018). Not only chemistry but consists of a combination of various other sciences, such as biology, biochemistry, engineering, nutritional and health science, and microbiology, so it is hoped that those who study food technology can produce healthy and safe food for the consumers. The skills that must be had by students before entering this department are problem-solving abilities, research skills, interest in health and nutrition, scientific and analytical reasoning abilities, and time management. The concept of food tech is to turn raw food into food that can be consumed and has good nutrition for humans. Food is one of the basic needs in our lives, therefore food tech is needed so that graduates can develop new foods that have high nutritional value. In this department, students will learn methods and techniques in food production, processing, preservation, packaging, labeling, and distribution. In addition, students will study food microbiology, enzyme tech, food hygiene, and sanitation nutrition and health, food processing, food laws and quality assurance, unit operations in food processing, plant engineering, applied food biotechnology, crop processing technology, food additives, confectionery technology, fermented milk products, food analysis, and more (Leverageedu, 2021).

            For those of you who are interested in food and always want to experiment with taste, then you are very suitable to enter culinary arts. Through culinary arts, students can express and use their creativity in food presentations.  Initially, students will learn about basic things that often happen in the kitchen. Students will be equipped with knife skills because they will use knives every time they cook. Such as cutting vegetables, fruits, and other ingredients. Product introduction and food safety is also the most important thing. Students will learn about the products that will be used, such as their uses and functions. They will also learn food safety which is the preparation, handling, and storage of food or drinks meant to prevent foodborne illness and injury. After understanding the basic lessons, students also learn math and accounting. Especially for those who want to open a business, these skills are needed. Not only about art, but the student will learn to recognize the nutrients in food to make a portion of nutritious food. However, cooking skills can't just succeed in one try. It will take a long time after practicing for so long so the foods can be formed perfectly (Barrys, 2021).

Even though they both work in the food sector, they are divided into two very different fields. Because many people think that food tech graduates will become chefs, so let's look at the differences between food tech and culinary arts. Food tech graduates can become food technologists, nutritional therapists, product/process development scientists, scientific laboratory technicians, and a lot more. In industry, they will work in the food industry which provides food to consumers. Food technologist have to meet the needs of populations. They have to make a product that won’t be ruined after three months in storage. That’s not what chefs do.  A food technologist works in a lab. They also have an oven, microwaves, mixers, etc., but there are scientific instruments as well: pH meters, beakers, etc.  Meanwhile, culinary arts graduates can become restaurant owners, book recipe writers, chefs, entrepreneurs, and a lot more. They will work in restaurants, bakeries, cafeterias, or open a catering business. Chefs only make food for individuals and they work in the kitchen with their chef coats (Heidi, 2013).

In conclusion, culinary arts and food tech are very different. They are in the same field but have very many differences. People who like to study chemistry, biology, and love to research are suitable to enter food technology. Meanwhile, people who like food, art, and love to cook will be suitable to enter the culinary arts major. Therefore, choosing a major is very important because it is our future. However, the most important thing is that we love what we do.

            “Will the degree be worth it, and will it eventually help you get a good job?” This type of question has been asked by a majority of people before deciding what to major in. In this case, industrial engineering is one of the majors that is highly recommended if you aim to get a good job and a flexible career path. There are three main reasons as to why you should consider industrial engineering as your major. First of all, it is essential despite how simple it sounds. Second, it is an on growing and flexible career field. Lastly, it improves your problem-solving skills.

 

Despite how simple industrial engineering sounds, it is considered an essential major. Industrial engineers work to improve businesses, thus they should be employed by every firm. Any process may be improved through industrial engineering. Using the lean concept, human factors, optimization, and statistical control, any industry's products may be improved in terms of production, safety, and quality. Industrial engineers bring a great deal of value to the businesses for which they work. The goal of an industrial engineer is to optimize the operation between people, machines and their environment to eventually reduce cost, eliminate waste, and minimize defects. Unlike any other engineering discipline that focuses on creating new products or services, industrial engineering focuses on the cost. There are three main focus areas of industrial engineering on reducing cost. The first is human factors, and the primary attention is on ergonomics. It tries to find the optimal design for a product and service that is being used. The second area studied is process and layout design, it involves analyzing the steps necessary to perform a given work assignment with the least amount of people and the highest quality. Operations research is the third area, this involves researching various factors such as time, distance, and gas to arrive at the optimal solution. They do this by face-to-face meetings with executives, extensive stays on manufacturing floors, and review of historical production data. 

 

Industrial engineering is proven a promising field since it has a job growth of 10% which is higher than average. In addition, you get the chance to learn a variety of things due to its flexibility. It applies science, mathematics, and engineering principles to complex integration and operations. IEs can work in manufacturing, technology, hardware, retail, and healthcare. If you can think of a business, a quality IE is working in it. Industrial engineers help to make the company’s total operation process more efficacious. Its job is to focus on improving the system that is made of people, knowledge, equipment, energy, material and process. Since an industry is defined as any business, trade, manufacture, or calling of employers and includes any calling, service, employment, handicraft, then industrial engineering is beneficial in a lot of workplaces. Spend enough time in the workforce, and you will see that every company has an industrial engineer. And the ones that don't miss opportunities to operate more efficiently, saving themselves time and money. Industrial engineers develop and implement systems that are complex and massive. Due to the complexity of these systems, they need to have a broad, systems-oriented perspective and knowledge in various engineering disciplines. Industrial engineers are skilled at using various statistical and communication techniques to improve the efficiency of their work. They also use computer simulations to improve their processes. Industrial engineers are responsible for identifying waste and improving the processes and systems of a company. Their main goal is to reduce waste and make the organization more productive.

 

As any other engineering major, industrial engineering deals with problem solving and this may improve your problem-solving skills. Industrial engineers are the ones who decide where to put machinery in a manufacturing plant, where to put fire stations in a major city, and where to establish a new factory based on operational and economic factors. Aside from that, they figure out the best routes for emergency workers to take through cities in order to save travel time. Identification, analysis, design, assessment of alternatives, and implementation are all phases in the problem-solving process that Industrial Engineering approaches may help with. The majority of IE approaches in use, however, focus on the analysis phase. Continuously scanning processes for possible efficiency gains, anticipating issues, or, in the event of a badly structured business, sorting out the most urgent problems or those to be handled with the least effort is one of the most important responsibilities of Industrial Engineers. For screening potential issue areas, a large number of checklists, questionnaires, audit processes, and recommendations are used. In the third edition of the ILO publication Introduction to work study, a specific questionnaire on work organization and workplace layout was included (ILO, 1979). For many industries and activities such as product creation, production, and sales, specific methods have been developed.

 

In conclusion, industrial engineering will be needed for its problem solving skill, analytical thinking and innovation, critical thinking, leadership skill, technology use, and flexibility. These skills are critical for industry 4.0. It can work in diverse fields, from healthcare, to automation, and even with added courses you can be a data analyst. Most companies hire an industrial engineer as a consultant or a manager, for it’s problem solving skills. They’re needed for the optimization of a company's production and benefits. The field is dynamic, there is always something new to learn. There are no limits on your ideas, creative thinking is encouraged for an industrial engineer. Since it’s a wide study, you can choose to specialize on the technical or the management side.  Both sides are useful for different reasons. The technical part focuses more on technology, manufacturing and materials. While management deals with the system, evaluating changes, communication and people. Both also have similarities that are required for the upcoming era.
